2024 Summer Best of Term Winners Announced
Gnomon is proud to announce the winners of the Best of Term Summer 2024 competition.
This term’s entries highlighted a remarkable range of talent, skill, and creativity across various disciplines, showcasing the exceptional work produced by Gnomon students. 20 category winners were awarded, whose projects demonstrated expertise in hard surface modeling, creature rigging, props and weapons design, stylized characters, fluid effects, and more.
This term’s grand prize went to Flynn Tierney for his outstanding work in “Best of Term – Environment | Interior.” Created as part of the Demo Reel 2 course, Flynn’s winning project captured an immersive ancient Egyptian throne room scene, showcasing a deep understanding of sculptural environment art workflows for games. Designed using a modular kit approach aligned with modern game development pipelines, the scene was brought to life with precise attention to detail, storytelling elements, and lighting through Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen system.
Max Dayan, Gnomon’s Director of Education, noted:
“What struck me about Flynn’s project was how immersive and thoughtfully constructed it was. Every element felt deliberate, from the modular designs to the atmospheric lighting that brought the space to life. It wasn’t just a display of technical skill; it was a testament to storytelling through environment design. Seeing students bring their vision to life in such a tangible way is incredibly rewarding.”
Gnomon’s Best of Term competition, held four times a year, provides students the chance to showcase their artistic vision and apply what they’ve learned in their 10-week courses. Each winning project reflects a unique blend of creativity, technical skill, and dedication, reinforcing the high standards and passion at the core of Gnomon’s community.
