Begin Your Art Education with Gnomon’s Foundation in Art & Design
Gnomon is excited to announce that the Foundation in Art & Design (FIAD) now integrates 3D courses into its curriculum, blending traditional art education with an overview of digital production techniques and 3D software used in the entertainment industry. Students will build foundational skills in drawing and design while also exploring 3D tools like Maya and Unreal Engine. These beginner-friendly courses are designed to help students develop their portfolios, deepen their understanding of art fundamentals, explore their interest in 3D, and gain transferable credits—all in a supportive environment for aspiring digital artists.
“We're excited to expand FIAD with courses that introduce students to both foundational art education and 3D art fundamentals,” says Max Dayan, Director of Education. “These updates give students the opportunity to develop their skills, from traditional drawing and design to industry-standard digital techniques.”
A Path to Gnomon’s BFA
Students interested in transferring into Gnomon's BFA program may find that FIAD offers a cost-effective alternative to a traditional community college path. With the majority of course credits earned in FIAD transferable to the BFA, students can significantly reduce future tuition costs. FIAD also allows students to build skills, gain confidence, and become part of the Gnomon community before entering their degree program.

A Flexible Path for Aspiring Artists
FIAD provides students the opportunity to experience a college-level art curriculum in a structured environment without having to make a long-term financial commitment. Students can enroll one term at a time into curated groups of courses including traditional art classes like Drawing in 3D, Color Theory and Light, Creature Design, alongside newly added 3D-focused courses such as Introduction to 3D with Maya, Introduction to Unreal, and Overview of Digital Production. FIAD students also benefit from access to Gnomon’s resource library, professional-grade workstations, and mentorship opportunities.
