Join us on Thursday, July 11th from 7-9pm PT for an exclusive livestream event featuring Dan Katcher, the acclaimed Los Angeles-based creature designer known for his Emmy-nominated dragon designs on HBO's Game of Thrones!

Dan's career highlights feature diverse projects for DC Comics Productions, alien designs for Green Lantern and sculptures for Sideshow Collectibles.

Dan will provide a comprehensive overview of his artistic journey, sharing insights into his career as a sculptor and tips for becoming an expert in the field. He will also showcase his expertise in ZBrush through a series of live demos. This segment will center on how to create anatomy by working from the inside out (muscles, bones, and structure to skin and surface detail) and applying scale patterns to a mesh to achieve realistic results. Dan will also explore the process of preparing designs for manufacturing, utilizing Dynamesh and Sculptress Mode in ZBrush to create detailed collectibles.

Dan Katcher

Character Designer

Dan Katcher is a renowned Los Angeles‐based creature designer for television, video games, and film. He is best known for his design of the dragons on HBO’s hit, Game of Thrones, which earned him Emmy recognition for seven straight seasons. In addition to Game of Thrones, Dan has worked on creatures for a number of DC Comic productions, including Doom PatrolDead Boy DetectivesThe Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Dan’s previous work includes the dinosaurs on Fox’s Terra Nova, alien designs for the Green Lantern film, creature designs for MTV’s Shannara Chronicles, and sculpts of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” for Sideshow Collectibles, as well as many other works both public and private. Dan got his start creating collectibles in wax for Todd McFarlane Toys in New York.

Dan was trained in New York City at the School of Visual Arts, where he majored in Animation, and at the Art Students League, where he learned clay figurative sculpture from experts in the field. Dan later trained in both Maya and ZBrush, and is considered a leader in his utilization of the latter platform. Dan credits his traditional art background for the depth of understanding of anatomy that sets his work apart. His ability to capture a character’s full range of human emotions gives his creations a signature, unmatched vitality.
