Join us on Friday, January 14th for an interview with Gnomon Founder and President Alex Alvarez!
Our host, Adam Hartel will be talking with Alex about his journey as an artist and educator as well as some of the common questions students have about Gnomon and pursuing art as a career. We will be discussing topics such as "What Gnomon looks for in an applicant," "What ‘industry ready' means and how Gnomon gets you there,” "How Gnomon continues to evolve with the entertainment industry," and "How artists stay creative and inspired."
Gnomon has been training artists for 25 years and many of them have worked on some of the top games and films in the industry. This interview will be a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from our founder about how the school has changed over the years and what new educational offerings we have in place for 2022 (including several Virtual Production and Unreal Engine courses). Viewers will also get to ask Alex questions in our chat!
Immediately following the interview, Adam will be sharing a brief presentation about how Gnomon continues to train artists for life-long careers in visual effects, games, and animation.
Watch the stream on the Gnomon Twitch Channel, YouTube Channel, and Facebook Live on Friday, January 14th at 11:00 am PST.
Events with closed captioning are available via Gnomon's Facebook Page.
Gnomon's full-time programs and 10-week individual courses are designed to develop well-rounded artists that are skilled in the diverse disciplines within 3D production. For those who reside outside of the US, virtual classroom-style online courses are also available.

Alex Alvarez
Gnomon Founder and President
Alex is the Founder and President of Gnomon. After attending the Art Center College of Design and the University of Pennsylvania, Alex worked as an Applications Engineer for Alias|Wavefront, the creators of Maya. The mid 90's marked a paradigm shift as computer graphics burst on the scene and forever changed how visual effects and video games would be created. While working onsite at scores of studios around southern California, Alex was in the midst of a rapidly growing demand for a new breed of artist.
In 1997 Alex founded Gnomon, a vocational art school that would find itself at the crossroads of art and technology. In the years that followed to today, Alex has guided Gnomon's evolution through his passion for the entertainment industry and collaboration with the professional community.
An accomplished artist and teacher, Alex has taught thousands of students on campus, online and at events around the world. He has been published and interviewed by industry magazines, websites, podcasts and books, as an authority on vocational education, creature development and environment art. His credits include Star Trek, Prometheus, Super 8, Green Lantern and Avatar.
