Exploring the Art of “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” with MachineGames

Join us on Wednesday, April 9th at 10:00AM PT for a livestream event with MachineGames! 

In this livestream-only event, artists from the acclaimed Swedish studio MachineGames will take you behind the scenes of their award-winning title, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Attendees will gain insight into the diverse aspects of art production for the game, from environment creation to weapon and vehicle design. 

Hear from Vytautas Kataržis, George McLay, Andrii Mykhailov, Daniil Ramin, and Pontus Wåhlin as they discuss their approaches to creating immersive and visually stunning game environments including: 

  • The world-building process and the creation of immersive environments using photogrammetry and sculpting techniques. 
  • A breakdown of the photogrammetry data and how it’s used to enhance environment assets. 
  • Insights into the challenges of creating vehicles with current-gen texel density, featuring techniques like texture blend shaders, trim sheets, and decals. 
  • A demonstration of the weapon production pipeline, using laser scan data as reference to achieve game-ready assets.

Andrii Mykhailov

Andrii Mykhailov

Senior 3D Artist

Andrii is a senior 3D Artist with more than 15 years of experience. He grew up in Ukraine where spend years working different 3D freelance jobs ranging from product visualizations to mobile games.

Later he joined Ulysses studio working as outsource artist on several Call of Duty titles. There he found his passion focusing mostly on vehicle assets. In 2017 he moved to 4A Games Studio to work on Metro: Exodus which even more improved his expertise as a vehicle artist. 

In 2019 Andrii decided to relocate to Sweden to join Machinegames studio well known as a developer of Wolfensten franchise at that moment. There he also had a chance to help with development of Akrane Lyon’s Deathloop

And after that he spent rest of his time shaping vehicles and environment assets for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle

Outside of work he spends most of his time bouldering and painting miniatures. 

Daniil Ramin - Senior 3D Artist

Senior 3D Artist

Daniil Ramin is a Senior 3D Artist with over 8 years of experience in the digital entertainment industries.

He started his career in 2015 at the creative agency POSSIBLE Group, where he worked in motion design. After that, Daniil joined a popular Russian TV channel, continuing his work in motion design before deciding to transition into game development — a field he had always been interested in.

Daniil's move into game development began with Alter Games, where he worked primarily on environment and props art for Patriots 1941, a strategy game set during World War II. This role marked his shift toward 3D art, specializing in creating assets that contributed to the game's visual world.

Following his time at Alter Games, Daniil worked with several outsourcing studios, including Sperasoft and TRACE Studio, on major AAA projects like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), Cyberpunk 2077RedfallShatterline, and Saints Row 3 Remastered. During this period, his focus was on weapons, hard surface modeling, and environment/props art.

In early 2022, Daniil moved to Sweden to join MachineGames, where he now contributes as a weapon and props artist on Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. Daniil continues to build on his expertise, delivering high-quality 3D assets that enhance the gaming experience.

George McLay - Senior Environment Artist

George McLay

Senior Environment Artist

George is a Senior Environment Artist at MachineGames, with 10 years experience in both the games and visual effects industries.

In that time, he has had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects, from the FIFA and Wolfenstein series to movies like Wonder Woman and Pacific Rim: Uprising. He has worked as an environment artist, lighting artist and a generalist across those years.

He moved to MachineGames in 2018 to work on Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and has been here ever since.

His passion is environments and lighting for games, and creating new and incredible experiences and stories using both.

Pontus Wåhlin - 3D Artist

Pontus Wåhlin

3D Artist

Pontus is a Lead 3D Artist at MachineGames and has over 15 years of experience. He was born and raised in Sweden. He started at Frictional Games as a freelance artist, contributing to Penumbra: Black Plague, and then moved to Starbreeze Studios working on Riddick franchise and Syndicate, where he got to work up his skills in modeling and texturing props and weapons.

In 2011, he joined MachineGames, working on titles like Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. This led him to relocate within Zenimax tour sister studio id Software in Texas, where he got to work on DOOM and Quake Champions.

He began his career focusing on both environment and prop modeling. In 2018, he returned to MachineGames as a Lead Prop Artist, leading a team of 3D artists. Since he came back to Machinegames, he has worked on titles such as Deathloop, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and DOOM VFR.

Outside of work, he enjoys photography and any art-related crafts.

Vytautas Kataržis - Environment Artist

Vytautas Kataržis

Environment Artist

Vytautas is a self-taught Environment Artist for MachineGames. He has worked there for over six years, working on studio projects as well as helping out Arkane Lyon with shipping Deathloop.

He had an early draw towards video games and an interest in creating them, dabbled in making content for Warcraft 3 and Unreal Tournament in his early days, but he didn't pursue a game artist position until later in twenties.

He honed his skills while learning from the best and striving to be the best. He had an opportunity to join MachineGames that he couldn't refuse.
