Join us on Thursday, June 27th, on Gnomon's YouTube channel for an exciting livestream-only event showcasing Rodeo FX's work on Damsel!

Gnomon is thrilled to welcome VFX Supervisor/Digital FX Supervisor Mathieu Dupuis, who will share insights into the creative process the studio used to create the large environments featured in the hit Netflix film.

From original concepts to the final stages of compositing, this presentation will explore the different techniques used in Damsel. Mathieu will break down the reasoning behind various approaches, including using “old-school” techniques to create the exterior of the kingdom of Aurea and leveraging the latest technological innovations for the interior of the Stone Mountain caves. Viewers will get a comprehensive look at the project, from reading the script and meeting with the client to early production sketches and using Houdini for the glow cave scene.

Don't miss your chance to hear from a leading creative studio and learn how they stay innovative and on budget while maintaining high-quality standards. Damsel is streaming on Netflix, so be sure to watch it before the event and get your questions ready for the Q&A segment.

About Damsel: A young woman's marriage to a charming prince turns into a fierce fight for survival when she's offered up as a sacrifice to a fire-breathing dragon. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright.

Mathieu Dupuis

VFX Supervisor / Digital FX Supervisor

VFX Supervisor Mathieu Dupuis is passionate about every detail in a visual effects project and it’s evident when collaborating with him. In his compositing career, he worked on some of the most complex and groundbreaking films like 300, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Avatar. His more recent projects include massive hits like Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel, Dune, Better Call Saul and Marvel’s Oscar-nominated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Mathieu’s early career working with Flame began in Montreal at some of the city’s first visual effects hubs like Buzz Image Group, Hybride and Oblique FX where he moved from Lead Compositor to Compositing Supervisor on The Expanse, and A
Breath Away. His career at Rodeo FX started on a high note with work on Overlord, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Stranger Things season 3, then moved onto the film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (as comp supervisor).

Mathieu is also well versed in production and loves what a strong team working in sync can do to elevate a project. Bringing an idea from one’s imagination into an efficient pipeline and realising full-fledged CG realities still gives him a jolt every
time.
