When Critical Role decided to pitch an animated series based on their tabletop RPG campaign, they turned to Emmy award-winning animation studio Titmouse Inc. We’re thrilled to welcome Art Director, Arthur Loftis and Lead Character Designer, Phil Bourassa as they discuss the evolution of the Critical Role universe from role-playing live stream into a high budget action-adventure series on Amazon Prime.
The Legend of Vox Machina was initially funded by a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign that stunned both fans and creators. Since then, the creative team at Titmouse has worked closely with the cast members of Critical Role to capture the magic of their sprawling universe.
During this live stream event, Arthur and Phil will cover the challenges of adapting an existing story that spans hundreds of hours, and the expectations that come with a project backed by fan funding. They’ll also dig into the design process of building a world that has already been represented in comics, campaign guides, and fan art.

Lead Character Designer
Phil Bourassa is an Emmy award-winning artist with over 20 years of experience as a character designer in the animation industry. He is best known for his work at WB animation where he created the look of the DC characters for multiple projects during a decade-long run. Phil is currently the lead character designer on the Legend of Vox Machina at Titmouse Animation.
Arthur Loftis
Art Director
Arthur Loftis is an Art Director at Titmouse Los Angeles, currently working on the record-breaking Kickstarter success, The Legend of Vox Machina. As a Critical Role fan, aka “critter,” he works closely with the creative executives to forge an animated adaptation that honors the source material and introduces new viewers to the story. Leading a team of 2D and 3D artists who bring fresh ideas to the world of fantasy action-adventure cartoons, the group’s passion for Dungeons and Dragons brings them together on the weekend. Arthur’s previous credits include Voltron: Legendary Defender, Motorcity, and Son of Zorn.
