An Evening with Jakks Pacific: Tools and Techniques of Toy Sculpting

Join us at Gnomon on Thursday, April 17th for a presentation on toy sculpting from Jakks Pacific!

Go behind the scenes with Jakks Pacific for a look at how toys are brought to life—from concept to final product. Eleazar Kim-Carmeli (Director of Creative Resources and 3D Design and Sculpting) and Lisa Hong (3D Sculptor) will share their creative process, the tools they use, and what makes a toy successful from both an artistic and functional standpoint.

The presentation will explore how traditional sculpting and art education inform modern digital workflows. Attendees will learn about design considerations like anatomy, form, and proportion, as well as how sculptors balance aesthetics and durability in production. Using real product examples like the Disney 100 Tinkerbell, the team will walk through problem-solving techniques for small-scale detail, fit, and function.

The session will also include a live demo of Jakks’ digital sculpting tool (Freeform by 3D Systems), showing how articulation, parting, and tolerances are built into models. From prototyping to final adjustments, this is a unique opportunity to see how creative decisions shape the toys you know, love, and collect.

Don’t miss this chance to ask questions during a live Q&A, connect with other artists, and enjoy complimentary pizza for in-person attendees. Campus tours with a Gnomon representative will also be available before the event. If you can’t make it to campus, the event will livestream on Gnomon’s Twitch and YouTube channels. The livestream will be available to watch as VOD on Gnomon’s YouTube channel once the event concludes.
